Get it right first time – a metaphor
I usually groan when a colleague or client says something like “but surely all you need to do is…”. Often they’re right, but too often, they’re not. It’s a common position to take, but it can cause people to miss risks to the successful delivery of the change
Here’s a slideshow demonstrating that it’s better to get it right first time than to have to do it again and tidy up the mess left by the first attempt. Having turned around several failing change initiatives, I reckon that the most difficult mess to clear up is usually one left by poorly thought out communications and engagement of key people, especially staff.
